From inception till date, the Miss Imo pageant other-wise known as Miss Heartland has achieved a-lot in leaps and bounds.
Formerly known as Miss Imo in 2001, the year of its inception, it was later in 2004 re-christened Miss Heartland.
However, the aspiration to host the Miss heartland 2011… beauty of Imo Origin, was born out of the success and achievements attained by our Nigerian born Miss Agbani Darego, who was crowned Miss World 2001.
On its maiden year, Miss Ella Unachukwu from Aboh Mbaise LGA won the former Miss Imo Beauty pageant 2001 where she went home with a 21” colour TV, a giant size refrigerating set plus N20, 000 cash.
Miss Afy Okwechime (now Mrs Afy Messeigha) of the Owerri Municipal Council was crowned queen in 2002. She won an Opel Omega and a cash prize of N100, 000 as donated by late Senator Amah Iwuagwu (of blessed memory).
Then in 2003, Miss Imo was rested due to some unforeseen circumstances.
In 2004, it was Miss Heartland, and on that same year Miss Nkem Obichere of Owerri North LGA went home with the crown, a brand new kia Rio salon Car, plus a cash prize of N500, 000 as donated by Eze Festus Odimegwu, MD/CEO (rtd) Nigerian Breweries Plc.
In 2005, Miss Heartland was then rested due to reasons way beyond the organizers understandings. However, in 2007 up till 2010 the event was taken up by Heartland International Ltd by virtue of the acquired Federal Government Trademark and has since received accolades from the Imo State Government.
This year 2016, the Miss Heartland Beauty Pageant has been repackaged, restructured as well as re-branded back to its original name The Miss Imo Beauty Pageant in order to meet international standards and recognition by the new outfit in charge.
